In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, we’re sharing the love story of True Bride Mariajose and John and the beautiful ways they brought their cultures together for their destination wedding in Cancún, Mexico.
Their beachside celebration brought together Mariajose’s Hispanic and John’s Filipino cultures, thoughtfully incorporating elements of both throughout their wedding and rehearsal.
Mariajose found her dress, Essense of Australia Style D3794, at True Society by Belle Vogue Bridal in Kansas City, after shopping at several other bridal shops. The strapless satin gown turned out to be exactly what she envisioned for her beach ceremony and nothing like what she originally pictured for herself.

MARIAJOSE, TELL US ABOUT YOUR PARTNER. HOW DID YOU MEET?
John and I were high school sweethearts. He is one of the most genuine and caring people I’ve ever met!
WHAT WAS YOUR PROPOSAL LIKE?
The proposal was beautiful and over the top at our local park. John set up rose petals and a light up “marry me” sign. It felt like a fairytale!
TELL US MORE ABOUT YOUR WEDDING.
Our wedding took place on the beach in Cancún, Mexico. It was the perfect blend of my Hispanic culture and John’s Filipino culture. We included elements of both during our wedding and rehearsal.
The views of the beach and added decorations displayed our attention to detail and solidified the fairytale love we have come to feel throughout our 7-year relationship. We wanted to feel that element of magic and share it with our loved ones! It was truly the best day.

I knew going into gown shopping that our wedding would take place on a beach in Cancun, Mexico, so my gown needed to fit that vibe. The gown I selected – Essense of Australia Style D3794 – was different than the style I originally imagined for myself, but it turned out to be the perfect fit for our timeless and classic style!
