True Bride Kelsey and Andrew’s love story started on the water at Michigan State University’s wakeboard club. Years later, after reconnecting on a reunion trip, their romance took them from the lakes of Michigan to the mountains out west. During a heli-skiing adventure in Alaska, Andrew—despite his fear of helicopters—popped the question at the top of the Chugach mountain range. It was epic, unexpected and uniquely them.
For their September wedding at the stunning Starry Night Barn & Studios in Suttons Bay, Michigan, Kelsey wanted a look that was sexy, sleek and chic. Andrew and I first met at Michigan State University through the wakeboard club. My class restarted the club during my sophomore year, and two years later, Andrew joined. The club is still thriving today with hundreds of members, which is amazing! Our love story didn’t begin then—we went our separate ways for a few years.
In 2021, we reconnected at an MSU wakeboard reunion, and the rest is history. At the time, we lived in different states but stayed connected long-distance. When we both returned to Michigan in 2022, we moved in together without even planning it. Andrew had an apartment in Grand Rapids, and after months out west, I showed up—and never left.
We share a huge love for snowboarding and the mountains, so we spend winters out west and the rest of the year in Michigan, which we proudly call home.

On my wedding day, I wanted a look that was sexy, sleek, and chic—something fitted with an open back and a unique design. Essense of Australia style D3763 delivered all that and more. It featured a daring low neckline, side cutouts lined with mesh and pearl detailing, and just enough edge to feel bold without being over the top.
I received countless compliments, and my day-of coordinator even said it was the best dress she’d seen all season. I felt stunning, confident and completely comfortable all night—no outfit changes needed. It photographed beautifully, exceeded every expectation, and truly was a 10/10.

My experience at True Society was incredible! I came in with limited time and a photo album of dresses I loved from the True Society site, plus a few “wild card” ideas. My stylist Paula pulled everything that matched my vibe and guided me through about a dozen gowns. Our wedding felt like a dream. Northern Michigan gave us perfect mid-September weather. The day before, we took a boat ride—very us since we’re lake lovers—then hosted a rehearsal dinner at the venue to soak in its beauty. We kicked things off with a casual welcome party at a local beer garden that fit our laid-back vibe.
The wedding itself was simple yet stunning: minimal décor and florals, letting the natural beauty and the gorgeous barn shine. We wanted rustic up-north vibes, and that’s exactly what we got. Our favorite part? Having all our loved ones together in one place.
The ceremony under a breathtaking willow tree was unforgettable. From carefully chosen songs inspired by concerts we’ve attended to Andrew’s uncle officiating just for us, every detail was personal. Guests told us they cried—it was truly special.
WHAT WAS THE MOST SPECIAL MOMENT FROM THE DAY?
When Andrew saw me in the dress, he looked so insanely happy. He couldn’t stop smiling. Honestly, the moment was just so wholesome. I wish I could relive it on repeat.
