When Sarah and Kokebnesh first met during their musical training over a decade ago, they had no idea their story would turn into a lifetime of love. Friendship blossomed into romance years later and their connection only deepened with time. From surprising one another with heartfelt proposals to planning a deeply personal wedding that broke traditional molds, their journey is inspiring as it is special.
Sarah and Kokebnesh each found dresses that reflected their individual styles at True Society in Hamburg. SARAH, TELL US ABOUT YOUR LOVE. HOW DID YOU MEET?
We met over ten years ago during our musical training. However, our love didn’t spark until three years later, at the end of our training and then everything moved very quickly, and friendship turned into love.
A few years into our relationship, we naturally discussed whether and how we imagined a proposal, a wedding and the future.
We quickly realized we had very similar desires and ideas and so it happened we both secretly prepared a proposal, knowing what the other would particularly like, but without a fixed schedule. The agreement was to make the proposal when it felt right.
We both managed to surprise each other with the proposals and rings, me shortly after our five-year anniversary in the summer of 2021 at one of our favorite beaches in Hamburg, and Sarah a year later during our vacation in Bali.
Planning and receiving a proposal was such a wonderful and special experience that we still rave about today.
KOKEBNESH, TELL US ABOUT YOUR DRESS SHOPPING EXPERIENCE AT TRUE SOCIETY! WHAT DID YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT WORKING WITH OUR TRUE CREW?
I went to True Society in Hamburg just before Christmas of 2023 with my best friend and maid of honor, as well as two of my closest friends and had a wonderful experience. My bridal stylist gave me plenty of time and attention during my wedding dress search, which I found very pleasant.
The atmosphere at True Society was cheerful and full of anticipation, and I was able to choose my dress that same day. It was the first dress I tried on! Later, I chose a beautiful veil that perfectly completed my look.
SARAH, DESCRIBE YOUR BRIDAL STYLE.
On my wedding day, I wanted to wear a dress that radiated timeless elegance and at the same time had a modern twist and that’s exactly what I found at True Society in Hamburg with Martina Liana Style 1566. Since I have been working in the wedding industry myself, I knew I wanted a fit-and-flare dress — a dress that clings to my body. Nevertheless, I tried on several different styles during my fitting. In the end, I went for the exact dress that I had fallen in love with online.
TELL US MORE ABOUT YOUR WEDDING.
We personalized every aspect of our love story. We customized every detail and stayed true to ourselves 100 percent, even if that meant deviating from the norm from time to time.
As a same-sex couple, we quickly realized that the wedding industry is still very much based on traditional models, with which we often did not identify. We also challenged some of the people around us with our planning, for example, by being very selective with our guest list.
The best decision was to spend a wedding weekend with our loved ones and to involve some of them in the ceremony. Instead of one of our parents, Kokebnesh walked in accompanied by her maid of honor. Her cousin and a very good friend were our wedding officiants, and a close friend sang for us.
All these decisions were exactly what made our wedding day so special, so personal and so emotional. We felt this just as much as our loved ones, who celebrated our love with us.
