True Bride Ebony & Kendra

Brides wearing lace wedding dresses kissing with fireworks going off

Ebony and Kendra’s journey began in Kalgoorlie, Australia, where their paths crossed at work. After a while, the couple just “clicked” and unfolded in a beautiful love story.

With a heartfelt double proposal and a magical winery wedding at the Mandoon Estate, their day was a true labor of love.

Both brides dazzled in Martina Liana gowns with matching lace, discovered during a shopping trip to True Society by Tuscany Bridal in Perth. Ebony stunned in Martina Liana Style 1598, a romantic floral A-line gown with off-the-shoulder sleeves, while Kendra opted for Martina Liana Style 1684, a sheath dress featuring a striking square neckline.

EBONY, TELL US ABOUT YOUR PARTNER.  HOW DID YOU MEET?

Kendra and I met in Kalgoorlie at work in the furnace. Honestly, an unlikely place for us to have met. We didn’t like each other at first but started to hang out more and then we just clicked. We’ve been inseparable ever since. It’s true when people talk about their “other half,” we just get each other.

We both proposed to each other, but Kendra proposed first. We were looking at rings on one of our trips to Perth and found one that we both loved. Kendra sent me out of the jewelry store so that she could inquire more and then came out empty-handed, acting sad that she couldn’t sort it out. That’s probably the only time she’s been able to successfully lie to me.

A few months later, we went to Perth for Kendra’s birthday, and we stayed at the Ritz-Carlton Hote. The sun was about to set, and we wanted to go out. I was taking too long to get ready apparently, so Kendra started blow drying my hair and helping me get ready.

Then I wanted to change my outfit at the last minute, and she had to convince me not to do it. Before we left, we were taking some pictures in front of the sunset coming through our window in the hotel room – I turned around and there she was, on one knee with the engagement ring in her hand.

DESCRIBE YOUR BRIDAL STYLE.

We live in Kalgoorlie, so we had to do some research beforehand on what kind of bridal style and designer spoke to us. We both loved Martina Liana from the start and wanted something classy but with a luxe feel and some kind of sparkle!

Completely unplanned, we ended up picking the only two Martina Liana dresses, Style 1598 and Style 1684 with matching lace details. My dress ended up having a style number which corresponds with my date of birth, 1598, which gave me and everyone else I told the chills!

TELL US ABOUT YOUR DRESS SHOPPING EXPERIENCE AT TRUE SOCIETY.

As two brides who wanted to surprise each other on the special day, we asked the True Crew at True Society by Tuscany Bridal in Perth to please keep us separate during our bridal appointments and make sure we couldn’t see each other AND didn’t pick the same dress, and they absolutely delivered.

They were so enthusiastic and had a genuine interest in making sure we had a great experience. Even our families and friends found our bridal stylist brilliant. Overall, the experience couldn’t have been better!

TELL US MORE ABOUT YOUR WEDDING.

We knew we wanted to get married somewhere green and beautiful, which led us to looking into wineries. I had heard of the Mandoon Estate before, so I suggested we go there and have a look. From the moment we drove in, we felt that it was going to be our place. The more we looked around, the more certain we were. We didn’t even look at another venue because we felt so connected to the Mandoon Estate.

The most special memory from the day was seeing Kendra at the end of the aisle as I walked down, and Kendra says the same. After all the hard work and the nerves, seeing each other was the best moment that made everything feel beyond worth it. We worked on our wedding in every spare minute we had during our enegagement.

We went to Perth what felt like twice a month and had many special touches that made the day our own- we handmade our save the dates, invitations, a lot of decor, place cards and more! It was our labor of love, for love.

As Kendra’s family is Aboriginal, it was important to us to have an acknowledgement of country, especially as the Mandoon Estate is focused on the Aboriginal history and acknowledgement of traditional ownership of the land. We found a celebrant who was more than happy to make that happen.

We also did a sand ceremony, facilitated by our amazing celebrant, in which we both poured individual vessels of sand along with crystals into a bowl that symbolized the union of our lives and futures together. This was something different but special to us and we are so glad we did it. We also asked our celebrant to do a grounding ritual and saging with us to release any anxiety and be present, which was amazing.
